NAND LAL SINGH COLLEGE

Nand Lal Singh College, Jaitpur-Daudpur, Saran (a constituent coeducation unit / college of Jai Prakash University, Chapra-Bihar) is located near the Daudpur railway station and beside the national highway No-85 (now NH-531) at 25 km west of the small town of Chapra, the district headquarters of the Saran district of Bihar. The college has been consistently imparting general education on the doorsteps of rural youth in the western region of Saran district of Bihar to bring out more general graduates and post graduates to meet the requirements of academia, society and industries.

With the efforts and donations of the local higher education loving dignitaries, this institution came into existence on 1 June 1969 with the name JAITPUR- DAUDPUR COLLEGE in the leadership of Shri Purendra Narayan Singh and Shri Ram Pratap Singh. Later, Shri Nand Lal Singh provided a major uplift to this college and then it was named afresh as NAND LAL SINGH COLLEGE, JAITPUR- DAUDPUR (SARAN). The college moved on with the care of its founder principal, Prof. Dwarika Pd. Singh and got itself boosted with the hard work, academic understanding, and scholarship of Prof. Binod Kr. Singh, the long serving Principal of the college. As a result, the college became a constituent unit of the then Bihar University, Muzaffarpur in 1980 with recognition from the Government of Bihar to conduct Degree (Hons. and General) programmes in B.A. and B.Sc. in fourteen subjects, namely Botany, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics & Zoology (B.Sc.), Economics, English, Geography, Hindi, History, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology and Sanskrit (B.A.) and since 2020, postgraduate programme in Political Science and Psychology. At present, the college is a fully grown institution owing to the continuous efforts of the successive principals viz., Prof. H.M. Singh, Prof. K.A. Singh, Dr. R.N. Ram, Dr. S.N. Prasad and the present visionary incumbent Prof. K.P. Srivastava.

At present, the college has more than 4000 students consisting of both boys and girls, with girls outnumbering boys in each programme. Therefore, it gives an impression of a rural girls’ college in the socio-educationally backward western region of the Saran district of Bihar.

The sufficient land owned by the college has been used only for educational activities. The college has planned the campus to maintain eco-friendly, pollution free atmosphere. Our campus is self-sufficient in many ways and well maintained. Our teachers are also very active in research in various fields of basic science, humanities and social sciences. Many research papers have been published by faculty members every year in journals of national and international repute. There are several different committees for the full-fledged development of administration and education of the institution, viz IQAC, Grievance Redressal Cell, Disciplinary Committee, Anti-Ragging Committee, Cultural Committee, Research Review Committee, Scientific Committee, etc. The college has in-door and out-door sports facilities for our students. Three NSS units are working continuously and consistently, including one unit for girls only, in the college. It often organises extension activities, seminars, birthday celebrations of great personalities, Human Rights Day, World Environment Day. women empowerment day etc. The college always maintains financial discipline and implements all the programmes, orders, and schemes of the Higher Education Department, Government of Bihar without fail. It ensures education to all with the constitutional. natural and social justice systems.

The college follows the acts and statutes of Universities of Bihar, and keeps itself abreast of the orders, instructions and directives of the Hon’ble Chancellor, the Universities of Bihar as well as the Vice Chancellor, J.P.University, Chapra, Saran.

The college is on the move towards academic excellence and students' satisfaction.
